Hormel’s bacon grease-fueled motorcycle stops in Sturgis

STURGIS, S.D. — Among the thousands of motorcycles rumbling through Sturgis this week is one fueled by bacon grease.

Austin-based Hormel Foods Corp. had the bike customized so it can run on fat that’s refined into a biodiesel blend.

The goal is to promote its Black Label Bacon line.

Ad agency BBDO is showing off the Track T-800 CDI at events across the country on a 10-day trip that ends Aug. 29 at the San Diego Bacon Fest.

It’s also producing a documentary on the effort.

Once the film is complete,Hormel officials say the motorcycle could be displayed at the Spam Museum in Austin.
