Habitat for Humanity-Freeborn/Mower welcomed a new face to their staff for the year.
Ojoye Akane is a Volunteer in Service to America through the AmeriCorps Vista.
Akane’s first encounter with Habitat for Humanity occurred while he took a college course in Program Evaluation and Assessment. He was assigned to research a nonprofit agency in the local community, so he chose Habitat for Humanity.
“I was impressed by [Habitat’s] vision,” Akane said in a press release. “I started to believe that what Habitat for Humanity stands for can only be a manifestation of God’s work through man’s hands.”
So when the 2014 summer Associate VISTA opportunity presented itself, he jumped at the chance to work with an organization he was passionate about.
“I learned a lot from the hard-working volunteers, staff, partner families, community members and businesses that are contributing significantly to making this world a better place,” Akane said in a press release.
He now works in a fund development and communications role to ensure Habitat for Humanity can partner with more families in coming years.
“I am happy to be part of Habitat for Humanity-Freeborn/Mower and am looking forward to working with all of you who are trying to make the world better for everyone,” Akane said in a press release.
