The Austin YMCA is doing its part to help area children be active and healthy.
The YMCA is hosting its first Austin and Mower County Kids Fest from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday to expose families to various programs available in the community. The event is free and open to the public.
“We want to make sure that if kids want to be active and involved and healthy that they find outlets to do that,” YMCA Executive Director Tedd Maxfield said.
The event will feature several activities for children, like an obstacle course, a photo booth and a bounce house in the tennis court area of the YMCA, along with free pizza and drinks, coupons, giveaways and more.
Several booths will also be available to offer opportunities for families to get involved.
“We hope that lots of people will come and see what’s going in the community,” Maxfield said. “Hopefully some of those folks will sign up for Y programs too.”
Maxfield said he hoped people will become involved with many of the groups participating in the event, noting that an active community is a healthy community.
