Austin senior boys basketball player Gach Gach, has been working on his game, and it’s taking him places.

Gach spent the summer playing with his AAU squad, the Minnesota Cyclones, all over the country and he’s racked up some college interest, including an offer from Division II West Texas A & M University.

Just as importantly, Gach has improved his playing abilities and he’s learning to play with the ball in his hands much more.

“I played against a lot of the top players in the country,” Gach said. “They pushed me to their level. The speed is much different and it made me a better player in a lot of different ways. I attack to the basket a lot more often now.”

Gach will likely be asked to create a lot more offense this season as the Packers graduated the trio of Ajuda Nywesh, Zach Wessels and Bret Lukes, who will all be playing college basketball.

“We lose our top three guards and that’s pretty hard,” Gach said. “I’ll have to bring the ball up more often and that’s something I need to take pride in.”

Gach said he didn’t even start playing college basketball until he was a sophomore. It helped when he saw all of his teammates moving on to play at the next level.

“They set the bar pretty high, but they told me that anything I want to do is possible,” Gach said. “I saw Tom [Aase], Joe [Aase], Wes, Bret and Ajuda going on to the next level and that’s where I wanted to go.”

Gach has a couple of offers from Division I Junior Colleges and he’s talked to some Northern Sun schools. He plans on making his decision when it gets closer to winter.

No matter where he plays in college, Gach isn’t worried about having to move far from home.

“I want to go somewhere where I’m successful on and off the court,” Gach said.
