Madeline L. Krueger, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, at her home in Austin surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Madeline Lucille Whisler was born Jan. 21, 1931, in Iowa to Ezra Raymond and Gertrude (Kane) Whisler. On July 18, 1948, she was united in marriage to Merle Owen Krueger at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, and they were blessed with seven children in the years to follow.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and she enjoyed going out dancing, spending time at the lake, and shopping. She was active in the League of Women Voters and the Minnesota DFL party. She worked in quality control at Land O’ Lakes, as a homemaker while her children were young, and in real estate. Madeline enjoyed getting together with a group of her high-school classmates. After Merle retired from Hormel Foods, they moved to Minneapolis and were engaged in property management; they returned to Austin in July of 2002.
Madeline is survived by her children, Steve (Patti) of Coon Rapids, Bob (Kathy Larson) of Austin, Tom (Lorelle) of Golden, Colorado, Terri Altum of Rochester, Tracy of Savage, Anne (Terry) Slowinski of Lyle, Bill (Ann) of Austin; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Evelyn Whisler of Centralia, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Madeline was welcomed into heaven by her beloved husband and best friend of 58 years; brother, Russell Whisler; and her parents.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tom Ogilvie officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at Mayer Funeral Home, and again at 1 p.m. at the church on Saturday. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
