Local residents are set to take a horticulture tour this Saturday.
The Mower County Horticulture Society is hosting a tour that will meet at 8 a.m. at the southeast corner of the Walmart parking lot on. The tour will go to the Hillside Nursery near Chatfield to view the display gardens and stock, and it will head to Fountain to the Anderson Acres Hosta Farm to see around 500 varieties of plants. They will then head to Houston to the Alpine Nursery to see their display gardens and the Swedish inspired porches on the front of their eight greenhouses.
Lunch will be at Myrick Park in LaCrosse, Wis., with a choice of turkey or ham subway six-inch sub, a cookie and chips. Cost for lunch is $6.
After lunch, the tour will head to Riverside International Friendship Gardens. LaCrosse has seven sister cities, and there is a garden for each. The group will travel through LaCrescent and up to the Apple Orchard scenic drive. A comfort and snack stop is planned at the interchange to Interstate 90.
Participants who wish to buy plants must bring a box with their name on it to put under the bus. Cost is $10 for members, $16 for members including lunch, and $20 for non-members — plus or minus the $6 lunch fee. Participants may bring their own small coolers, and there will be water provided on the bus. Good walking shoes are encouraged.
