Greg and Billie Braaten boat Friday night with their children, Cody, 6; Addison, 3; Riley, 13; and Max, 2, in their flooded rural Austin field along Highway 251 partway between Maple Island and Highway 218. The Braatens said they were trying to make the most of the recent floodwater and estimated the water was about 4 feet deep in their cornfield. Greg farms more than 50 acres and estimated he lost at least 30 percent of his crop. This wasn’t the first time the field has flooded, as Billie recalled boating in the field in the mid-2000s.
