One injured in morning fire

Firefighters respond to a house fire this morning on the 100 block of Fourth Street Southwest just south of Anderson Memorial. — Jason Schoonover/jason.schoonover@austindailyherald.com

One person was injured in a house fire early Tuesday morning.

Austin firefighters responded to the blaze at the 100 block of Fourth Street Southwest at about 4:45 a.m., according to Fire Chief James McCoy.

McCoy said the homeowner left the home on his own but was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin for his injuries. McCoy couldn’t say what injuries the man sustained.

Firefighters put out the fire by 7 a.m. and the state fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the flames. Firefighters said the home sustained smoke damage and several items were burned in the living room, where the fire is suspected to have started.
