Formal schooling has ended for the year, but learning never stops. Children learn every day through experiences, activities and observations. We invite you to partner with us this summer to give your child new experiences and opportunities for fun learning and growing.
To kick off the summer season, Curious George will be with us on Thursday, June 12, for a special story time at our Readers Café. Curious George will be at Neveln Elementary School from 11 to 11:45 a.m., and Austin High School from 12:15 to 1 p.m.
Reader’s Café is a free book exchange with a wide range of books available to read and check out. We are located at Austin High School and Neveln Elementary School near the summer lunch sites. We love to talk about books. Come and find something great to read. We have tons of suggestions for you. We also offer weekly activities, story times, and games. This is a fun place to retreat from the heat or go on a rainy day. Best of all, there is no cost. It’s all free. Reading Centers are open Monday through Thursday, June 9, through July 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Austin High School and Neveln Elementary School cafeterias. Note: There will be no program July 4.
Free summer lunch will once again be offered to all children 18 and under at Austin High School, Ellis Middle School, Neveln Elementary School and Southgate Elementary School. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning June 9. Adults can dine with their children for just $3.50.
Austin Community Education has many activities, classes and events to keep children engaged this summer. We have classes in engineering, art, drama, gardening, music, science, woodworking, sewing, fencing, robotics, Tae Kwon Do and sports. Check out and register for these classes online at www.austin.k12.mn.us/clc.
Whatever you do this summer, make time for new experiences and activities. Enjoy the journey of learning with Austin Public Schools.
