Yvonne L. Hammer, 84, of Austin, Minn., died Sunday morning, April 13, 2014, at Creasy Springs Health Care Campus in Lafayette, Ind.

Yvonne Lucille Hildreth was born Oct. 28, 1929, in Austin, Minn., to Russell and Mable (Beck) Hildreth. After her 1948 graduation from Austin High School, she attended Austin State Junior College. On Aug. 13, 1949, Yvonne and Lloyd Hammer were united in marriage at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Yvonne was employed by Austin Public Schools, where she worked as a secretary and then Registrar at Austin High School for 23 years. A charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, she was active in many church activities over the years. She enjoyed attending musical events of all kinds, supporting the Packers with her husband Lloyd, spending time at the cabin on Lake of the Woods, and visiting her grandchildren. Yvonne also enjoyed more than 60 years of treasured friendships as a member of “Card Club” with lifelong girlfriends from her Austin High School graduating class. She especially loved animals and had numerous pets that lived well into old age.

Survivors include her children Suzanne (John L.) Larson of Lafayette, Ind., and Brian (Joanna) Hammer of Acworth, Ga.; three grandchildren, Anna (Kevin) Nolan, Olaf (Kate) Larson, and Rachael Marty; one great-grandson, Kevin John Nolan; her sister Carol J. Markham of Mason City, Iowa; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Russell and Mable Hildreth, her husband Lloyd Hammer, and a brother-in-law Donald Markham.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday May 9, 2014, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, with Rev. Karen Behling officiating. Visitation with coffee and refreshments will take place from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the service.  Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorials can be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Austin, the Alzheimer’s Care Coalition in Lafayette, Ind., or to the family in memory of Yvonne.  Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
