William J. Grant Jr., 75

William J. Grant Jr., 75, passed away in his home May 10, 2014, after a brave struggle against cancer. He was born May 3, 1939, in Austin, Minn., to William J. Grant, Sr., and Edith (Mauer) Grant. He graduated from Pacelli High School, and attended Austin Community College and the University of Minnesota. In 1965, he married Judith, and they had three children. In 1973, the Grant family moved to Las Vegas, Nev.

William helped found the P.A. Diskin Elementary School PTA. He coached youth baseball in Western Little League and Spring Valley Little League. He served as a coach, commissioner, and president for Southern Nevada Pop Warner Football. He further served as President of the Clark High School Boosters Association in 1987-1988. William and Judith helped found two local parishes, Christ the King Catholic Community, and St. Joeseph, Husband of Mary Catholic Church. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 10442, before cancer first struck him several years ago. He retired in 2001, after 29 years as a plant operator and supervisor for Clark County Sanitation District.

William was proceeded in death by his parents, William, Sr., and Edith; and sisters Doreen Grant and Bonita (Grant) Peters.

His wife Judith passed away on May 19, 2014, after a long battle with heart disease.

William is survived by his sons Gregory, and Christopher (Suzanne); daughter Jennifer; brother Gary (Kathy); and sisters Janet Gamboa, and Jeanne Hagan.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Roman Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Three Square, a local charity providing food to the poor.
