Phyllis S. Swanson, 89, of Austin, Minn., died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester, Minn.

Phyllis was born on Sept. 17, 1924 in Austin, Minn. to James and Merle (Roberts) Scott.  She graduated from Austin High School.  Phyllis married Harold Swanson on Sept. 17, 1950, at the Church of Christ in Excelsior, Minn. After Harold passed away in 1963, Phyllis and her daughter, Cindy, moved to Austin where Phyllis worked at the Red Owl until her retirement in 1982.

Phyllis was a member of the Church of Christ in Austin where she was baptised and confirmed. In her younger years, she was active in the V.F.W. and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her family was her number one priority and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, five brothers and one sister.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Cindy and Dale Sharp, Rochester, Minn.; grandchildren: Amie (Kris) Wood, Rochester, Minn., Heather (Daniel) Evenson, Goodhue, Minn., Michelle (Joshua) Pederson, Byron, Minn.; great grandchildren: Trayten Trom, Cyndi Trom, Kaitlyn Wood, William Wood, Dawson Evenson, Derick Evenson, Dwayne Evenson, Dwight Evenson, Zoey Pederson and Zaiden Pederson; sister: Anita Fox, Cottage Grove, Minn.; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Church of Christ in Austin with Pastor Stephen DeFor officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant View Memorial Gardens in Burnsville, Minn. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service on Tuesday morning.
