Daniel J. Miller, 47, of Austin, Minn., passed away unexpectedly Friday morning May 2, 2014, at his home due to heart complications. He was born Sept. 26, 1966, to Ivan and Anna Miller. Dan grew up in Austin and graduated from Pacelli High School in 1985. After graduation, Dan attended Austin Community College for two years and held various jobs before joining the team at Torge’s as bartender/assistant manager. He worked there from 1993 to 2001. In 2001, he moved to Tampa, Fla., to assume the position of manager of Planet 9-Ball, a large billiards/restaurant, until 2007, when he suffered heart problems. In 2008, Dan received a heart transplant, and eventually moved back to Austin. He enjoyed playing golf, disk golf, reading, walking and biking. Dan loved spending time with his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and developed a special bond with all of them. All his family and friends enjoyed his great sense of humor.
Survivors include his loving mother, Anna Miller of Austin, Minn.; two brothers, Ken (Maggie) Miller of New Port Richey, Fla.; and Bob (Jean) Miller of Byron, Minn.; three sisters, Diane (Arol) McCaslin of Spring Valley, Minn.; Jane (Joe) Costa of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; and Mary Lou (Jim Power) Miller, also of Inver Grove Heights; seven special nieces and nephews and seven great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ivan, in 1987.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2014, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Steffes officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Worlein Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church. A prayer service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Thursday evening.
