Austin senior Abbey Ball had a pair of solo home runs and she struck out nine, but it wasn’t enough as the Packers fell to Rochester John Marshall (2-0 overall, 2-0 Big Nine) 6-2 in Rochester Friday.
JM scored one run in the fourth inning to tie the game up at 1-1 and then they took advantage of a few Packer miscues to score four in the fifth and go up 5-1. Austin (0-2 overall, 0-2 Big Nine) finished the game with six errors.
Ball, who allowed just two earned runs, hit a solo shot to make it 5-2 in the top of the sixth.
“We played them tough,” Austin head coach Cindy Owen said. “We played well at times, we just need to play a full game.”
