Longtime Branson resident Phyllis E. Johnson, a mother and grandmother, died April 23, 2014, at age 83. Phyllis was active until the last couple years of her life after suffering a tragic stroke. Phyllis loved living in the beauty and serenity of the Ozark Mountains.

Phyllis was born in Elkton, Minn., Sept. 8, 1931, and was the youngest and only remaining child to Richard and Elsie Jech.

Phyllis attended Elkton High School and shortly after met Leonard Simon Johnson. Leonard, a U.S. Army veteran, began a career with International Business Machines (IBM) where he assisted in production of several highly technical components in the ‘60s and ‘70s which are still used today in the computer field. Together, Leonard and Phyllis had three children, daughter Carol Neal, Branson, Missouri; David Johnson, Elgin, Minn., and youngest son Douglas.

In 1977, Phyllis Johnson moved to Branson, Missouri with her family where she and Leonard purchased the Table Rock Inn and Restaurant. Phyllis never met a stranger and enjoyed promoting the Ozarks as a wonderful place for families to visit on vacation. The Johnson’s were very active in the St. Johns Lutheran Church in Branson, Missouri. Phyllis’s outgoing personality and loving nature were an inspiration to those around her. Phyllis and Leonard were very active in community involvement and could often be found helping families in need. Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 1998, and her loving granddaughter, Amanda Jean Johnson, in 2010.

Phyllis is survived by eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and an abundance of relatives throughout Minnesota and South Dakota. Phyllis touched the hearts of everyone who ever knew her and will be dearly missed.

Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
