A 48-year-old Albert Lea bicyclist who tested over the legal blood alcohol limit received minor injuries after he collided with a vehicle at Oakland Avenue West and Fifth Street Northwest early Tuesday.
Police Chief Brian Krueger said the man, who works in Austin, was biking to work eastbound on the south side of Oakland Avenue West at about 8:19 a.m. Monday when a 33-year-old Austin woman hit him as she was turning onto Oakland Avenue, a one-way that only goes west.
It’s unclear who struck the other, but the man fell into the left lane on Oakland Avenue after the collision. The man was taken by Gold Cross to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin but was released several hours later. He later claimed his bike back from the Law Enforcement Center.
Both the man and woman were tested for alcohol, and the man registered “well over the legal limit,” according to Krueger. No charges were filed.
