NWS: Area to have spring weather after snow

Yes, Mower County received more than 3 inches of snow Thursday night and Friday, but the area should swiftly return back to spring.

“This wintry weather kind of looks like like one of the last spells, at least in the foreseeable future,” National Weather Service meteorologist Todd Shea said.

Austin received about 3 inches of snow as of about 8:30 a.m. Friday, according Shea. Another inch to half an inch was possible before tapering off later in the morning. Much of southern Minnesota and a ban from northern Iowa to west central Wisconsin received about 3-5 inches, according to Shea. Lighter amounts fell south and east of Austin, and about an inch of snow had fallen in Rochester by this morning.

The area received about a tenth of an inch of ice before the snow.

Light drifting was also possible later Friday, as winds were expected in increase to 24 to 28 mph with 39 mph gusts before tapering off this evening.

A band from southwestern Minnesota to northwest of the Twin Cities received about 7-11 inches, according to Shea.

Shea said the area should return to more seasonable conditions, but a major warm-up isn’t in the future.

According to the weather service, Saturday’s high will be around 47 and Sunday’s will be around 55. Highs for next week will range from the upper 40s to low 60s.
