The Mower County 4-H Senior and Junior General Livestock Quiz Bowl Teams completed at the 2014 State Project Bowl held in Sauk Rapids, Minn., on Saturday, April 5.
In General Livestock quiz bowl, the teams field questions about animal husbandry for beef, sheep, swine and market goats. This includes breed identification, anatomy and physiology of each species, nutrition, diseases, and appropriate management and care of the animal through its lifespan.
Marketing and retail products from the four species and showmanship is also covered. Contestants may also have questions about land stewardship as well as recent research findings.
The junior teams include third- through eighth-grades and the senior teams are ninth-grade and older. The 4-H General Livestock Quiz bowl program is a great way to learn animal husbandry and make friends across 4-H clubs.
