Marian Viola Walerak, 90, of Hayfield, Minn., died peacefully, March 28, 2014, at Susie’s Place in Hayfield, after an eight year battle with Alzheimer’s.
Marian was born on Nov. 26, 1923, at home near Adams, Minn., the daughter of Gust and Nellie (Hartman) Anderson. The family later moved to Rose Creek, Minn. Marian attended school in Rose Creek and graduated in 1941. She attended Hamilton School of Commerce and graduated in 1943.
On Sept. 4, 1948, she married George Walerak at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek. They were married 56 years. The couple farmed near Rose Creek until 1957, when they moved to their farm near Hayfield. After George’s death in 2004, Marian stayed on the farm and later moved to an apartment in Hayfield and then to Susie’s Place.
Marian was a devoted and proud farm wife working beside George on the family farm. She was a great cook, everyone was welcome, and no one ever went home hungry. She enjoyed many fun times with family and friends, traveling, camping, and fishing. Her grandchildren meant a lot to her and she was one of their biggest cheerleaders at their sporting events.
Survivors include three sons, Tom (Sharman) Walerak, of Hayfield; Jerry (Mary) Walerak, of Eagan, Minn.; Bob (Rose) Walerak, Rose Creek; one daughter, Jayne (Tom) Thalhuber, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, and four brothers, Laurence, Alvin, Oscar, and Herbert Anderson.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at Susie’s Place for the care and compassion during her stay with them. Marian was always happy and could be counted on for her beautiful smile.
