Funeral services for Betsy Anderson will be held 11 a.m.. on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Bear Creek Lutheran Church, Frankford Township, Mower County. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Betsy E. Anderson, 95, of Grand Meadow, Minn., died Friday March 14, 2014, at the Spring Valley Senior Living in Spring Valley, Minn.

Betsy E. Anderson was born on Aug. 29, 1918, in Racine Township, Minn., the daughter of Thaulow and Amalia (Bengtson) Hovda. She died March 14, 2014.

She attended grade school in rural Grand Meadow and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in the class of 1935. She attended Normal Teachers Training at Austin, Minn. She taught in a one-room school near Grand Meadow.

On June 16, 1937, Betsy married Melvyn Anderson at her parent’s home in rural Grand Meadow. The couple had six children; Beverly, LaVonne, Cleo, Carol, Mary and James.

Betsy was a lifetime member of Bear Creek Lutheran Church where she had been Sunday School Superintendant and Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was an active member of the Alter Guild Ladies Aid and Mission Circle. She loved to do volunteer work at Meadow Manor. Her life revolved around her church and family. She is survived by three daughters; Beverly and husband Woodward Payne of Mill Valley, Calif.; LaVonne Hawkins of Rochester, Minn.; Mary Jacobson of Alma, Wis.; and one son, James Anderson and wife Nancy of Rochester; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Oliver Hovda of Grand Meadow; Hjalmer “Buddy” Hovda and wife Gretchen of Progreso, Texas; Thaulow ‘Sky” Hovda and wife Darlene of Wabasha, Minn.; two sisters; Frieda (Harold) Jensen of Grand Meadow; and Amalia “Molly” (Howard) Paschke of Blue Earth, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews. Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughters; Carol Anderson and Cleo Borgmann, sister Margaret Close, brother Herman Hovda, grandson Justin Borgmann, sisters in law; Margaret Hovda, Carol Hovda and Donna Hovda, two brothers in law, Ted and Arthur “Art” Anderson and two sisters in law, Myrtle MacLaran and Harriett Keim.
