The Hayfield girls basketball team opened the Section 1AA West quarterfinals in dominant fashion as they topped No. 7 seeded Cannon Falls (4-22 overall) 75-36 in Hayfield Thursday.
The Vikings (20-6 overall) were led by Dani Wagner, who scored 25 points.
No. 2 seeded Hayfield will play No. 3 Dover-Eyota Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Mayo Civic Center Arena.
“We shot really well and the game was over fairly early,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said. “It was a good start to the tournament for us. If we can shoot like that we’ll be tough to beat.”
The win was No. 300 in the career for Kindschy and he said that’s a credit to the players who have played for the Vikings over the years.
“It says we’ve had a lot of good kids go through,” Kindschy said. “It’s more of an accomplishment for the school and for the athletes that have gone through here. We’ve had a lot of good athletes who have been awfully easy to work with.”
