Packer boys edge out Winhawks

The Austin boys basketball team had to hold of Winona to win 46-42 on the road Friday.

The No. 4 ranked Packers (9-2 overall, 5-0 Big Nine) were tied at 38-38 with 4:20 left when Bret Lukes and Ajuda Nywesh hit back-to-back 3-pointers to push Austin to a 44-38 lead.

The Winhawks (3-7 overall, 1-4 Big Nine) pulled to within 44-42, but Nywesh iced the game when he hit a pair of free throws with four seconds left.

“It was a grind it out half court game,” Austin head coach Kris Fadness said.
