A plan for wedded bliss

BridesHere come the brides.

The Hormel Historic Home is set for its fourth annual wedding showcase, and one woman couldn’t be more excited, as this year she is pulling double duty. Amanda Fett has been wedding coordinator at the Hormel Historic Home for three years, and will oversee her third event. She’s also engaged and set to be married this year.

“This year, I’m attending it as a bride, too,” she said, and mentioned her wedding photography and bridal shower will be held at HHH as well.

Fett will be in a prime spot on Sunday, Jan. 26, both working and having a good time, when the showcase runs from noon to 3 p.m. at the Home.

This year’s showcase will feature 31 vendors, including caterers, bakers, reception organizers and venue reps, photographers, videographers, decorators, invitation companies, formal wear retailers, DJs, transportation companies and more.

“We’ve had more vendors than we’ve ever had before,” Fett said.

As an example, one company will also decorate the Home, the entire ceiling and backdrop.

Of course, in this day in age, prospective brides and grooms make much of their reservations online and over the phone. The wedding showcase is a great opportunity for brides to see who will handle their weddings. That face-to-face contact, as Fett has seen, is a bonus.

“This event gives them a three-hour window to be able to sit and talk with vendors of their choice,” Fett said. “They get to meet potentially any vendor they would meet on their wedding day.”

For those curious about the event, Fett says it really is helpful. Instead of searching through a phone book or surfing through websites, brides can see it all in front of them.

“That’s one of my biggest suggestions to brides,” Fett said. “Meet the vendor that they are going to be using,” she said.

The event covers all the bases, so knot-tiers can’t forget anything, either.

“I think that that it’s really helpful to me as a bride because there is a good variety of anything and everything you’re going to need,” Fett said.

Furthermore, the HHH may just be the right spot for some of those future brides and grooms. It offers everything one needs for that special day.

“The neat thing about the Hormel Historic Home is that we do all-inclusive weekends,” Fett said.

That means those looking to tie the knot can hold their groom’s dinner, ceremony and reception all at HHH.

For all of those who have already gotten lucky and are attending the event, there will be chances at another prize. For the first time, the showcase will also feature roughly $3,000 in wedding prizes. All guests who attend the event will qualify for a chance to win the prizes once they are admitted. The drawing will be held at the conclusion of the event.

“That’s a new feature this year that I’m really excited about,” Fett said, even though she likely won’t be eligible, given her position.

But even those who don’t win will find deals at the event. Many of the vendors offer special promotions for those who book with them the day of the showcase.

While an ice storm put a damper on last year’s event, Fett hopes nobody will have cold feet at this year’s event and that guests come out in droves. And those who do attend can watch the Austin Bruins model off the latest groom’s wear, while models for Belles and Beaus of Austin will have its own models, showing off new gowns and dresses for mothers, bridesmaids and flower girls. The fashion show starts at 2 p.m.

“If people have any questions, they can visit our Facebook page,” Fett said.

Potential guests can also call the Hormel Historic Home at 507-433-4243. Admission is $3 per person, payable at the door.
