Loren Bellrichard made headlines in the latter half of 2013 after a saga of multiple arrests, fleeing the state while out of jail on furlough, and alleged threats against several county and city employees.

Bellrichard was arrested in September for allegedly stalking a 16-year-old girl, and was arrested in October after he made bail and made contact with the victim. He received a two-day furlough in early November to attend his mother’s funeral, during which time he went missing. Though he was captured several days later, he wrote a letter to the editor against an upcoming school levy, travelled all the way to Wisconsin, and allegedly sent a letter to an attorney with the Mower County Attorney’s office threatening that someone would burn down several public employees’ homes if Bellrichard’s charges weren’t dropped.

Aside from three felony stalking charges, Bellrichard also faces charges for escaping jail and threatening public officials — that last case is being tried outside of Mower County. Bellrichard has a pretrial for the stalking charges set for Jan. 23.
