Two Austin residents were arrested Wednesday morning in the midst of a city ordinance enforcement.
Austin’s City Engineering Department went to remove junk from the property in the 1400 block of 28th Ave. NE, and officers arrested and cited the homeowners for obstructing the legal process.
According to Police Capt. McKichan, it’s not unusual for police to assist the city in such matters, as they can become heated.
“We will occasionally do that,” he said.
According to the police report, officers and city employees tried to explain the legal process. However, a tense situation became heated and resulted in inappropriate comments, and police arrested the homeowners to allow the city to do its job.
Community Development Director Craig Hoium was not immediately available for comment.
The homeowners have received citations, and the report has been forwarded to the city attorney’s office for any additional charges.
The Herald has withheld the homeowners names pending those charges.
