Henry Iverson, 89

Henry Iverson, 89, previously of Austin, Minn., died of renal failure Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center in Port Lavaca, Texas.

Henry Lowell Iverson was born Jan. 13, 1924, in Bennington Township to Theodore and Dena Iverson.

Henry served in the U.S. Army during World War II, doing special duty during war crimes trials in the Philippines. He married June Carol Francis on Sept 1, 1950, and they lived in Austin, where he worked at Hormel for 30 years, retiring in 1980. Henry loved to work in the yard and raised a large garden for many years. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed history and biographies. Henry was a member of the American Legion, and Henry and June were both members of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, even after they moved to Texas to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June, in 2007; brothers Leverne and Ray; sister, Violet, and sister, Doris, who died in infancy.

Henry is survived by his sister, Marlys Larson, of Spring Valley, Minn.; daughters Debra (Curt) Long, of Katy, Texas; Sherri (Benny) Judice, of Port O’Connor, Texas, grandchildren Ashlee Long, of Katy; Curtis (Brittany) Long, of Houston, Texas; Tara (Adam) Taylor, of Austin, Texas; Tasha (Luis) Falcon, of Waianae, Hawaii; Brian Judice, of Port O’Connor; and three great-grandchildren, Simon Taylor, and Adrian and Maddox Falcon.

There will be a celebration of his life and memorial service at 1 p.m. Feb. 1, at New Creation Lutheran Church in Fulshear, TX , PO Box 301 77441  832-492-5136

Funeral services at St Olaf Lutheran Church and burial at Grandview Cemetery are planned for this summer, details pending.
