Memorial services for Eileen A. Battey of New Richland will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Richland. The Rev. Scott Williams will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Friedrich Funeral Home in New Richland and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St Peter’s Cemetery, New Richland.
Mrs. Battey died on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at her home in New Richland. She was 72 years of age.
Eileen was born Aug. 4, 1941, in Vivian Township, Waseca County, the daughter of Emil and Amanda (Tolzman) Groskreutz. She graduated from public school in Waldorf. On June 18, 1959, she was united in marriage to Clarence Battey in Wells. She was a Waseca resident all of her life and a member of St Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Richland. Eileen retired from Brown Printing in Waseca after many years.
Eileen enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, dancing and fishing. She loved to ride her motorcycle and snowmobile and could be seen mowing the lawn frequently. Eileen worked hard all of her life and cherished her time with family and her grandchildren.
Eileen is survived by her husband Clarence of New Richland; children Laurie (Paul) Riemer of Siren, Wis., James (Theresa) Battey of Owatonna, Jeff (Linda) Battey of New Richland, Linda Battey of North Branch and Jerry (Lori) Battey of New Richland; eight grandchildren Xylana, Bobby, Jeff, Eric, Michelle, Paulette, Nichole and Nicholas; great-grandchildren Jerod, Ethan, Wyatt, Jayden, Gavin, Jacelyn, Telon, Owen and Payton. One sister survives, Ardean Klampe, of Waseca.
She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Bridget; and infant twin brother.
