Austin students square off in geography bees

Students competed Tuesday in Austin to again test their knowledge of the world.

Two groups, fifth and sixth grade, and seventh and eighth grade, showcased their knowledge at Ellis Middle School to see who would prevail in the annual geography bee.

In the fifth/sixth-grade competition, fifth-grader Eric Yang took first, followed by sixth-grader Seth Lumley, sixth-grader Jaren Steen and fifth-grader Elyse Hebrink.

In the seventh/eighth-grade competition, eighth-grader Lauryn Bell took first, followed by seventh-grader Conner Byram and eighth-grader Josh Bollum.

The winners of each category will take a test to qualify for the state competition.
