Richard Edward DeWall, 83, of Grand Meadow, Minn., died Thursday morning, Nov. 7, 2013, at Grand Meadow Healthcare Center.
Richard was born Nov. 2, 1930, in Rosevelt Township in Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from August 1952 — June of 1954. On Sept. 24, 1960, he was united in marriage to Florence E. Kylen in Swea City, Iowa. She passed away Aug. 25, 1994. Together they farmed near Grand Meadow for many years. He was an active member of the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church and held a variety of positions and served on many committees throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the Harry T. Anderson American Legion Post in Grand Meadow and for the last seven years, he resided at Grand Meadow Healthcare Center and was known as the John Deere man. He enjoyed playing cards
Survivors include four children, Linette (Mark) Heimbuch of Mason City, Iowa, Wayne (Cindy) DeWall, of Grand Meadow, Minn.; Renee (Matthew) Ziemer, of Dover, Minn., and LuAnn (Eric) Ziemer of Rochester, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and sister, Marie Baade of Humboldt, Iowa, and brother, Leroy (Pat) DeWall., of Caledonia, Minn. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a sister and three brothers.
Funeral services for Richard will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church with the Rev Beth Krolak officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Meadow Cemetery with Military Rites by the Harry T. Anderson American Legion Post 140. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
