The Matchbox Children’s Theatre will presenting the second event in their 2013-14 season with “The Secret Garden” this Friday through Sunday, Nov. 10 at the Historic Paramount Theatre.

Directed by Jerry Girton, the production features 30 talented community members. Many of them are veterans of the Austin stage, including Krista Johnson as Mrs. Medlock, Matt King as Dickon, Randy Forster as Dr. Craven, Kayla Byram as the Nurse, and Alice Holst as Mrs. Sowerby.

The story focuses on Mary Lennox, played by Lydia Wik, who moves to England to live with her reclusive uncle after her parents pass away. While living there, Mary learns about a private garden where her late aunt used to spend all her time, and was locked by her uncle after she passed away. Eventually she discovered the key, and makes the garden her secret hideaway.

While she is restoring the garden, she is introduced to her cousin Colin, played by Hugh Olson, who appears to be an invalid living in a hidden bedroom.

She eventually coaxes him outdoors into the secret garden, a decision that will change their lives forever.
