Vehicle damage reports still coming

The string of vandalism reports continues to trickle in at the Austin Police Department.

Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger has counted several more reports of slashed tires and broken windows after about 30 reports over the weekend. The total damage count could be near 40 vehicles.

It’s unclear if the new reports also happened over the weekend or more recently. But the pattern is similar, and this time with a pellet gun. Police on Monday received reports all around southwest Austin about vehicles with side and rear windows apparently shot out by a pellet gun. Other reports involved a vehicle with slashed tires, a camper with a shattered window and a truck with damage from a BB or pellet. One report of a sedan with a shattered window was also recorded in the 700 block of 15th Street Northeast, as well.

Austin Parks and Recreation has also been victimized, as an employee reported a loader tractor with a shattered window.

Police still have no suspects at this time and seek the public’s help with any information. Callers can leave anonymous tips with the law enforcement center at 507-437-9400.

The Mower County Sheriff’s Office has also taken vandalism reports near Dodge-Mower Road. However, those reports came in before the string of vandalism in Austin. Two farmers reported windows were shot out of their tractors last week. There is no damage estimate in one case, but one farmer reported all of his cab windows were shot out, which is about $3,500 in damage.
