Emmett Earl Sweazey, 78, of Austin, Minn., died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minn.

He was born Oct. 8, 1934, in Moscow Township, Freeborn County, Minn., to Albert and Bueta (Hamor) Sweazey. After graduating from Blooming Prairie High School, Emmett lived in Austin, Rosemount, and then returned to Austin. He loved to travel all over the United States, and especially enjoyed Alaska and Hawaii. Fishing, boating, gardening, biking and visiting friends and relatives were among Emmett’s favorite pastimes. On Nov. 18, 1955, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Paulson in Nashua, Iowa. Emmett’s jobs in Austin included construction and working for the Milwaukee Railroad. He was employed by Hormel Foods Corp. for 28 years, and also drove for Heartland. While living in Rosemount, he worked for Greif Brothers Corp. Emmett spent his winters in Mission, Texas, and his summers at Ten Mile Lake.

Survivors include his wife Jeanette Sweazey of Austin; his children Dale (Jennie) Sweazey of Richville, Minn., Dawn Mohrhauser of Rochester, and Diane (David) Miland of Austin; nine grandchildren: Kelly, Ryan, and Trevor Passow, Timothy, Jeffrey, Sara Jo and Taylor Sweazey, Samantha and Logan Miland; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters: Dorothy Bierschenk of Nashua, Iowa, and Arletta Asaad of Brownsdale, Minn.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Bueta Sweazey.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor William Odermann officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Worlein Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.
