Elmer A. ‘Bud’ Mytten, 92, of Wabasha, formerly of Austin, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha.

He was born Sept. 23, 1920, in Mantrap Township of Hubbard County, Minn., near Nevis, the son of Anton and Emma (Flatten) Mythen. He married Dixie Aebischer in Waseca on Feb. 20, 1942. He then served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. After discharge the family lived in Austin. Bud worked for the Geo. A. Hormel Company for 42 years. The couple moved to Wabasha permanently in 2001. They had vacationed in the Wabasha area since 1960. Dixie died Sept. 1, 2012.

Bud was a former member of the Austin Olaf B. Damm Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1216 and the Austin American Legion Post 91 and a current member of the Austin Eagles Club. He was also a current member of the Wabasha Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post 4086 and the Wabasha American Legion Post 50. Bud was a jack-of-all trades. He loved tinkering with things and doing electrical and plumbing jobs. His interests were fishing, hunting, and boating. He also enjoyed woodworking. In his later years he enjoyed riding his scooter around town.

He is survived by children and their spouses, Lynn Mytten, Wabasha; Sandy and Bill Zeimetz, Kenosha, Wis.; Larry and Jean Mytten, Wabasha; Randy and Diann Mytten, Wabasha; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Penning, Austin; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie, and one sister, Evelyn Madison.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha with the Reverend David Knox officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin at 2:30 p.m. with the Austin VFW and American Legion Posts providing military honors. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha is in charge of arrangements, www.abbottfh.com.
