Duplicate Bridge

Tournament results for Aug. 7 with five tables played: first, Vandy Newman and Gene Muchow; second, Orrion Roison and Dave Ring; third, Stan Schultz and Dave Magee; fourth, Lu Schmitt and Loren Cleland.

Duplicate Bridge is played each Wednesday at noon at the Mower County Senior Center in Austin. All Bridge players are welcome. Call Dave Ring at 507-434-4189 for partnership assistance or additional information.

Golden Age

Hazel Baldner, chairperson, conducted the monthly Golden Age meeting at the Austin Moose Lodge on Aug. 7.

Karen Machacek, in absence of chaplin Dee Murphy, gave the reading “Points of View.”

Shirley DeYoung made the motion, seconded by Ann Miller, to accept the secretary and treasurer’s reports as read.

August birthdays will be celebrated by Marion Zimmerman, Bea Callahan and Mary Ann Davis.

August wedding anniversaries will be celebrated by Vernon and Sylvia Ginder and Johnny and Bea Callahan.

Cards (500) were played at eight tables. Lunch was furnished by Mary Ann Davis.

National Society Daughters of the American Revolution

Red Cedar Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, met at the home of Cheryl Potter on Aug. 3, 2013. Members completed the program calendar for 2013-2014.

Red Cedar Chapter will have a display at the Austin Public Library on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., in honor of Constitution Week. This display will include a copy of the Constitution, and many historical handouts and American flags. Also included in this display will be a braille flag, as well as an American flag that was flown over our nation’s capitol on July 3, 2013. Polly Jelinek is chairperson of the Constitution Week observance. The public is invited to visit the display and learn about our American Constitution.

Members of Red Cedar contributed several non-perishable food items to the Salvation Army food shelf. Kristine Maier, a new member of Red Cedar and grand-daughter of Maxine Williams, a former member, is the volunteer and special events coordinator at the Salvation Army. Maier shared information regarding various volunteer opportunities at the Salvation Army.

The next meeting will be held at the Austin Public Library conference room on Thursday, Sept. 3, 6:30 p.m.
