Richard Douglas O’Harra, 74, of Austin, Minn., died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at his home in Austin.
He was born on March 23, 1939, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Charles “Chuck” Leslie and Josephine (Kornovich) O’Harra. He attended school in St. Paul Park before entering the U.S. Air Force in 1956. He served in Japan working in the motor pool for two years. He was discharged in 1959 and returned to Minnesota where he began working for Armour – Dial Meat Packing Company in St. Paul, Minn. He worked for Armour – Dial in St. Paul and later in Fort Madison, Iowa until his retirement in 2000. On July 3, 1995, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Bjergum in Austin, Minn. Richard enjoyed listening to his LP records and tinkering with cars, computers and televisions.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie O’Harra of Austin; three children, John (Dina) O’Harra and Mike O’Harra all of Austin and Melissa (Jason) Hagen of Owatonna; three grandchildren, Aiden and Jake O’Harra and Joseph Hagen; one sister, Charlotte Gust of Rush City, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Leona O’Harra of North Branch, Minn.; also many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Francis “Butch” O’Harra and a brother-in-law, Duane Gust.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, in Oakland Cemetery, 927 Jackson Street, St. Paul, Minn., with military honors by Minnesota Army National Guard. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
