Festival kicks off tomorrow
The city of Austin is getting ready for the Austin ArtWorks Festival, which takes place this Saturday and Sunday.
More than 100 artists with Austin ties are set to come back to share their work. Popular artists such as Eric Anfinson and author Amanda Hocking are expected back at the festival alongside new artists such as author Therese Pautz. Organizers are expecting a big crowd, as more than 5,000 residents came to the festival last year.
Saturday and Sunday are filled with events at the Austin Utilities power plant. Artists will make presentations at the festival’s three art galleries, as well as the outdoor stage at Marcusen Park.
The festival highlight is the 7 p.m. concert featuring popular independent band Cloud Cult, whose violinist, Shannon Frid-Rubin, is from Austin. Martin Zellar and the Hardways will co-headline the concert. Zellar is the frontman of the popular Austin-based band The Gear Daddies.
AMCAT shuttle buses will take participants on guided tours throughout Austin from noon to 4 p.m. on both days. The tours will take place starting on the hour. The festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
