Robert D. “Bob” Anhorn, 83, of Faribault, Minn., passed away on Monday, July 15, 2013, at Faribault Senior Living.

Robert Duane, the son of Arthur Frederick and Mildred Alice (Bergland) Anhorn, was born on April 10, 1930, in Austin, Minn. He graduated from Austin High School in 1948 and from Carleton College in 1952 with a bachelor of science degree in economics. He also earned a bachelor’s in elementary education from the University of Minnesota in 1955 and a master’s degree in educational administration in 1959. Bob married his “one and only” Audrey Jane Austad on June 14, 1952, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Austin. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1954. He was employed by the Faribault School District for 37 years as an elementary school teacher and principal. He also served 25 summers as an Instructor for Behind The Wheel Driver’s Education.

Bob was a life long sports enthusiast. He was a three sport high school athlete and standout college baseball player. He went on to enjoy coaching and umpiring. Bob was active in his church and community. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as bowling, playing cards and traveling. During their 61 years of marriage, Bob and Audrey took many vacations with their family, visiting numerous states and Europe. Most of all, Bob loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; three children, Randal (and Lori) Anhorn of Chandler, Ariz., Sandra Rainey-Stitt of Chandler and Nancy (and Douglas) Zahn of Faribault; eight grandchildren, Scotty (Melissa) Anhorn, Lindsay Anhorn, Brianna (Gene) Trikoff, Brandon Rainey, Brent Bowdler, Travis Krenske, Ashley Krenske and Steven Zahn; five great-grandchildren, Hailey, Austin, Dominic, Carter and Mason; four siblings, Donald Anhorn of Eugene, Ore., Arlene (and Duane) Napp of Georgetown, Texas, Janet (and Richard) Gaughran of Jordan and Ronald Anhorn of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a stillborn son, Gregory Anhorn in 1954.

Funeral services will be held at First English Lutheran Church, Faribault, on Friday, July 19, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Mandsager officiating. Interment will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Faribault. Visitation will be at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Thursday, July 18, 2013, from 3 to 7 p.m. and also at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service.
