Donald Eugene Morrison, 84, of Winona, Minn., formerly of Blooming Prairie, Minn., died Monday, July 8, 2013, at Tower Light Hospice Care in St. Louis Park, Minn.

Donald was born June 15, 1929, in Austin, Minn., to Harold and Marie (Schreier) Morrison. He graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1947, and from the University of St. Thomas in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree in history. At St. Thomas, Don was a member of the 1948 St. Thomas University football team that played in the Cigar Bowl. Donald married Janice M. Reuter on June 15, 1954, at St. Boniface Church in Waumandee, Wis. Janice passed away on Nov. 20, 1982. Donald served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954. On July 26, 1991, Donald married Marianne (Breza) Rice in Winona. He was a member of St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie, Minn., St. Stanislaus in Winona and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He spent most of his career as a banker, serving as president of the First National Bank in Blooming Prairie. A very active member of his community and church, Don was a founding member of the Prairie Manor Care Center, and was proud of his involvement with the Polish Museum in Winona. Recently, the museum dedicated the “Morrison Annex” in his honor. In 2010, he was inducted into the Blooming Prairie Sports Hall of Fame. Don’s favorite pastimes were golfing, playing cards, dancing, sporting events and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Marianne Morrison of Winona; sons Paul (Mary Jo) Morrison of Edina, Minn., and James (Jean) Morrison of Eden Prairie, Minn.; daughter Mary Ann Amundson of Minneapolis; step-sons Russell Rice of Rochester, Minn., and Ted Rice of Winona; sister Margaret (Billy) Noble of Blooming Prairie, brother John (Edee) Morrison of Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Marie Morrison, his first wife Janice, a brother and a sister in infancy, and his sister Joanne Van Wyck.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013, at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie with Father Paul Breza officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. A rosary service will be held at 4 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. Interment will be in St. Columbanus Catholic Cemetery. Military rites by American Legion Post 52 and VFW Post 878. The family prefers memorials be directed to the Polish Museum of Winona, the Blooming Prairie Education Foundation or the Serviceman’s Club of Blooming Prairie.
