Donald Eugene McCollar, 72, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013, in his home town of Kearney, Neb.

Donald was born April 12, 1941, in Nebraska to Chester and Francis McCollar. He lived in Austin, Minn., for 20 years and Idaho for five years. He was a member of Austin Christian Fellowship. Donald married Barbara Draayer (McCollar) on Aug. 22, 1992. He worked various jobs along with nine years at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin, where he met his wife, Barbara. He also went to Riverland Community College for off-set printing. Donald was very good at writing poems.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara McCollar of Austin; son from a previous marriage, Donald Matt McCollar in Fort Dodge, Iowa; sister Janet Bystrom, Kearney; nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers in law and many friends.

Preceded Donald in death were both his parents and sister Clara Mae Vanderloft of Idaho.

Funeral services were June 15, 2013, in Kearney, Neb., with military rites performed; Donald served in both the Army and the Navy. A memorial is planned for 1-3 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Twin Towers, 200 First Ave. NE in Austin.
