A felon previously convicted in Mower County for check forgery has been convicted of the same crime again.

Amy Kathryn Potter, 29, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, was sentenced to 10 years’ supervised probation for the felony charge and must pay more than $6,00 in restitution. According to the court complaint, Potter deposited a $6,275 check into a local bank and took $1,275 of that amount in cash. The bank later notified authorities about multiple attempts to get money from Potter as the bank was unable to locate the check’s account.

Authorities discovered Potter was in jail in Mitchell County, Iowa, for writing a bad check, according to the court complaint. A detective interviewed Potter, and Potter admitted to filling out the information on the check and depositing it on July 11, 2012; however, she denied signing it.
