The Austin Blue Sox are starting the amateur baseball team on a hot streak and that continued when they beat Blue Earth (6-2 overall) 14-6 in Marcusen Park Tuesday.
The Blue Sox (4-1 overall) broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth when they scored seven times to take a 13-4 lead.
“He was throwing up some good pitches,” said John Kirby, who was 4-for-5 with two RBIs. “We were seeing the ball well tonight and it was surprising, because usually when it gets dark at Marcusen it’s hard to see the ball.”
Jon Mittag scattered eight hits in six innings to get the win for Austin and Chris May pitched three innings in relief.
Blue Sox manager Jamey Pratt said the team has been off to good start due to the work it has put in.
“Everybody’s been getting a lot of cuts in and we’ve got some pretty responsible guys who went in the cages in the garage when it was bad. It’s paying off,” Pratt said.
Kirby is just glad to see the team open on a hot streak.
“It feels good,” he said. “We won’t have to pick it up like we did at the end of last season. Hopefully we can keep it rolling.”
