An Iowa man charged in Mower County Court for twice strangling a woman, punching her and breaking her nose, changed his plea to guilty last Thursday.
James David Broszeit, 32, of Postville, Iowa, pleaded guilty to felony third-degree assault with substantial bodily harm.
According to the court complaint, Broszeit and the woman were arguing about “drinking and parenting issues” while at Deer Creek Speedway near Racine on Sept. 22. Broszeit strangled the victim twice in her car, the woman said, and then punched her in the face. The complaint stated the two drove home together; however, the victim asked to go to the hospital. Broszeit reportedly dropped the victim off at the hospital but did not stay with her.
A local deputy learned about the case after a Winneshiek County deputy forwarded the information. A warrant was issued, and Broszeit was arrested on Oct. 15. He will be sentenced on Sept. 13.
