Relay for Life looking for more support

The Mower County Relay for Life is looking for more people and teams for this year’s event in Austin, and it’s using a new way to bring them in.
Those who are unable to walk or attend this year’s event on July 27 and 28 but would still like to raise funds can participate in a virtual team. Those participants would raise funds via Internet and do whatever events they could participate in. For more information about that type of team, call 507-325-2227.
Patty Urlick, 2011 Honorary Chair, started her team, Worlein Walkers, after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. Patty knows how to get the ball rolling as she started her team and for the last two years was the top individual fundraiser. She uses the Internet as a way to receive support from family and friends who do not live in the area.
Last year the Mower County Relay for Life raised more than $98,000, and organizers want to surpass the $100,000 mark for 2013.
This year’s relay will be another two-day event with entertainment, games, a water slide on the hill and a silent auction. The goal is to have at least 30 teams participate this year.
