Letter to the Editor

On Saturday, April 20, nearly 300 people came to Mill Pond for the second Annual Stepping out For Autism Walk. This event raises money to support the Autism Programming at the Hormel Historic Home. We could not have raised more than $7,500 without the support of the walkers and many area businesses.

A big thank you goes to the following sponsors who contributed both financially and physically to the event-Cornerstone Financial Resources, Coffee House on Main, Hy-Vee, Precision Signs, Mayo Clinic Health System Austin, Bollingberg Chiropractic, Professional Speech Services, Ooh LaLa, Austin Park and Rec., Wrad’s Rags and Awards, and Muzik’s Muddin’.

It took over 20 volunteers to organize and run the event and we are so grateful to those people. We are also thankful to KAUS Radio, the Austin Daily Herald and KAAL TV for helping get the word out about the event and about Autism in general.

Fifty area young people will benefit from the 2013 Summer Camps held for those diagnosed with Autism. Many of them also participate in our monthly Fun Night events. These programs could not occur without the strong support of our community including the United Way of Mower County and the Hormel Foundation.

Sincerely,

Holly Johnson

Hormel Historic Home Executive Director
