GMLOS girls have big day at Section 1A track preliminaries

WINONA – The Grand Meadow-LeRoy-Ostrander-Southland girls track and field team advanced competitors in six events to the Section 1A finals at the Section 1A track and field preliminaries in Winona Tuesday.
GMLO’s Danielle Hanson took second in the 300-meter hurdles and Elizabeth May was third in the 400-meter dash.
In the boys meet, Blooming Prairie’s Michael Thomas qualified for the 200- and 400-meter dash finals as he took first in both prelim races.
Lyle-Pacelli’s Sarah Holtz missed out on state in the long jump as she took sixth with a distance of 15-9.75 and GMLOS’s Morgan Schmitz missed out on state in the discus as she took third with a throw of 110 feet and one inch.
Blooming Prairie’s Cole Sunde missed out on state in the triple jump as he finished seventh with a distance of 39-9.
The Section 1A finals will be held Thursday in Winona.
