A driver abandoned his vehicle and fled onto private property to avoid a DWI Wednesday night, according to the Austin Police Department’s reports.
Police responded to a complaint about erratic driving on Eighth Street NE at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Witnesses described the suspect and said he abandoned his vehicle, climbed over a fence and went onto Hormel’s property.
Officers searched the area and found a person hiding in bushes, according to the report. The suspect then fled when officers shined lights on him, the report added. A Hormel security officer later detained the suspect. Officers then handcuffed the suspect after it appeared he would flee again.
According to the report, the suspect’s keys matched the vehicle, which had run into the curb at 14th Avenue and Eighth Street NE. Among violating probation, the driver may be charged with second-degree DWI, second-degree DWI test refusal, fleeing an officer on foot and driving after revocation.
