An Austin man who reportedly obtained medical treatment by illegal means was sentenced on a lesser charge Thursday in Mower County Court.
Willister Davenport, 41, was convicted of a gross misdemeanor for wrongfully obtaining medical assistance. His original charge was a felony. Another felony charge for insurance fraud was dismissed.
According to the court complaint, Davenport used his son’s Ucare card to receive mathadone treatments at Rochester Metro Treatment Center. The complaint said Davenport used the card to receive rides from the Mower County Senior Center to the treatments and also tried to receive transportation reimbursement from Mower County Human Services. Authorities found Davenport’s alleged transportation claims to be consistent with the dates he signed in to use the senior center’s bus.
Davenport must serve 90 hours’ community service and pay $6,756 to Ucare and $2,520 to Mayo Clinic Health System.
