ROCHESTER — Stewartville grad Lexi Schunke had a big day for the Riverland Community College softball team, which opened its regular season with a pair of wins over Rochester Community and Technical College in Rochester Regional Stadium Tuesday.

Schunke pitched the Blue Devils to a 9-2 win in the opener and she hit a walk-off, three-run homer with two outs an 8-5 win in the second game.

The freshman finished 5-for-9 with two homers and six RBIs on the day.

“She had a tremendous day,” RCC head coach Al Eckmann said.

Austin grad Marie Clennon pitched the Blue Devils (2-0 overall, 2-0 MCAC South) to the nightcap win.

The Blue Devils played sharp all day as they tallied 21 hits and committed zero errors in the doubleheader.
