Unity Chapter No. 29

Unity Chapter No. 29 Order of the Eastern Star of Austin presents a $200 donation to DAV Chapter No. 27 of Austin on Tuesday. Unity has applied for a matching grant from Minnesota Masonic Charities that will double the gift.

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 91

At the Feb. 13 meeting of the Austin American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 91, tentative plans for Girls State and County Government Day were discussed. Girls State will take place the week of June 6-15, with the Auxiliary sponsoring two delegates from Austin High School and one from Pacelli High School.

County Government Day will be on April 9, when participating students will meet at our club for a light breakfast. After a busy morning they will return to the Legion for lunch, served by the Auxiliary.

Membership Chair Annette Quinlin reported 202 members have paid their dues, reaching 89.8 percent of the projected goal for the year.

Seven new members will be inducted at the initiating ceremony during our March 13 meeting.

The meeting closed with prayer for the safe return of all our troops.

National Active and Retired Federal Employees

National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 469 met Feb. 12, at the Pizza Ranch in Austin, Minn. President Jonathon Green reported election of officers will be held at the NARFE State Convention, which is scheduled for May 21-23 in St. Cloud. Registration forms for the convention are available. The deadline to register is April 1. Contact President Green if interested in attending. NARFE members nationally recently reached $10 million to combat Alzheimer’s disease. The next meeting is scheduled for April 9 at the Pizza Ranch in Albert Lea.

Duplicate Bridge

Tournament results for Feb. 13 with three tables played: First, Stan Schultz and Dave MaGee; second, Tom Flaherty and Gus Brandt; third, Orrion Roisen and Dave Ring; fourth, Eunice Michaelis and Warren Behrends.

Duplicate Bridge is played each Wednesday at noon at the Village Cooperative in Austin, 2301 10th St. NW, Exit 177 off I-90, two blocks north of Walmart.
