Jane E. Reeve, 91, of Austin, Minn., died Friday, March 1, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea, Minn.

Jane Elizabeth Helm was born in Burlington, Iowa, on July 15, 1921, to Adolph and Louva (Westfall) Helm. She graduated valedictorian from Oakville Iowa High School in 1939, and later graduated from Iowa State University in 1943 with a degree in economics. She later earned her education degree from Mankato State Teachers College.

Jane worked on the east coast during World War II for the insurance industry as a claims adjuster. She married Burt Reeve in 1947 in Owatonna, Minn. They moved to Austin in 1954. Jane taught various high school subjects in the Elkton and Southland school districts for 20 years.

She was active in BPW, Austin Boating Club, Hormel Nature Center, Mower County Humane Society and Friendship Force. She was an avid bird watcher and was always feeding her little friends. She was a world traveler and for years enjoyed the company of her many Dachshund dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Louva Helm, and her loving husband, Burt.

Jane is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Lynn and Beth Reeve, Fairmont, Minn., Dr. Mark (Cathie) Reeve, Austin; grandchildren, Eric (Anna) Reeve, Rochester, Minn., Matt Reeve, St. Joseph, Minn., Noah (Natalie) Ehret, Apple Valley, Minn., Melissa Ehret (Jesse), Sebastopol, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Liesl Reeve, Kassidy Ehret and Jack Ehret.

A gathering celebrating the life of Jane E. Reeve will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the Mower County Humane Society or the Hormel Nature Center.
